June 11-15, four members and their advisor of the Lee County FFA Chapter visited the KY Leadership Training Center. These members were Roxie Haynes, Josh Hacker, Tim Mays and Tasha Ross.
The KLTC is located in Hardinsburg, KY. This camp is designed to teach the members the duties of being an officer, or a committee chairman. Each member is required to take a class that pertains to her/his position in the chapter. The classes taken by the members are as follows:
Roxie-Committee Chairman
Josh-Committee Chairman
Tim-Treasurer’s Training
Tasha-Reporter Training
Each member also takes two special interest classes that range from agriculture careers to tractor safety. The special interest classes taken by the members are as follows:
Roxie-Electrical safety and Photography
Josh-Livestock Judging and Conservation
Tim-Parliamentary Procedure and Communications
Tasha-Photography and Parliamentary Procedure
Throughout the week many awards are given. Our chapter was fortunate to receive 7 of these honorary awards. Each member receives a participation award for attending classes, but two of the students excelled in other areas. Josh Hacker was proclaimed an all star in basketball, and Tasha Ross was recognized for the winning of her athletic group. There is also an award for chapters who maintain a score of 100 on their cottage inspections everyday, our chapter received this award.
During this week many things were acquired, friends, knowledge, skills and new ideas for the chapter. Each member that attended the KLTC was asked what her/his favorite thing about the center.
Among other responses the most common was meeting and getting to know all the different chapters.
During this week of training there was a special time that was spent with your chapter. This time is set aside to allow all the chapters to discuss what has happened that day, plan events, and bond with each other, or in our chapter’s case eat Pringles!!!
During this week every chapter attended the KLTC for the same reason, we have come to realize that each and everyone of them are so unique in their own way. They all have their own goals they want to accomplish in the up coming year. We have thought of what our own goals need to be and how they may be accomplished. Just a few of our goals are:
* To gain 30 members next year
* To win 7 regional contests
* To win 5 state contests
* To have our members more involved in our activities
* To carry on our 100% paid membership next year
All in all, the week of training was very educational, fun and will stay with us until we decide to remove our corduroy jackets for the last time.
