The line forms on top of the cliff behind Al Gore
-
A few days ago we were watching bits and pieces of the “Live Earth” concert. Anyway, the extravaganza appeared to be an Al Gore production devoted to saving the world from “global warming”. The big event featured numerous mental heavyweights from Hollywood and the rock music circles and a sizeable contingent of left wing political blowhards.
The prize blowhard had to be Robert Kennedy Jr., who ranted and railed against American companies and manufacturers, calling them “traitors” and “evil”. It seems that the illustrious speaker equates the release of carbon emissions into the atmosphere as somehow selling the country down the river. Responsible scientists who don’t buy into the global warming hysteria say the current carbon emissions released into the atmosphere in the United States, amount to no more than a single grain of sand in the Sahara Desert and similar levels would have to be maintained for nearly 500 years to raise global temperatures a single degree. We believe that Kennedy’s remarks should be reserved for those companies that take their manufacturing facilities to third world countries for cheap labor and leave their own country high and dry. We don’t see where trashing those companies that stay here creates a single job or improves the lot of the American worker. We learned long ago that companies are profit oriented. Workers who think that their welfare is the top priority of any company, are probably hot prospects for some ocean front property on that same Sahara Desert we were talking about moments ago. Those who think Al Gore and Robert Kennedy Jr. have their best interests at heart will probably buy a case of sun tan oil as well. Just don’t be surprised if the fine print says “snake oil”.
An interesting sidelight to this debate is that the global warmers want no debate and are trying to make dissention against the law. So much for the liberal commitment to “free speech”.
We don’t have a high regard for stupidity or hypocrisy. No weatherman in this country can reliably tell you what the temperature on any given day two weeks from now will be, much less 50 years down the road. Those who say they can, may be sniffing airplane glue. Extended periods of warming and cooling have affected this earth since the dawn of creation. Ice ages and tropical periods have come and gone only to re-emerge thousands of years later. This global warming thing went on for centuries before and after the mammoth hunters crossed the Bering Straits to come to America. It is hard to believe that Gore and Kennedy and many of their better educated disciples avoided all that knowledge during the educational process. If they did learn those things, and still persist in their arguments, we have to suspect that they have a deep, abiding respect for the truth and use it sparingly so as not to wear it out.
Gore lives in a house that requires more energy to heat and cool than our small town. He and many of his elitist friends fly in private jets and zip around in luxury cars, but ask the rest of us to park our cars and ride bicycles. Gore says he “buys carbon credits”, whatever that is, to justify his elegant lifestyle. Some have described this “liberal speak” farce as “cutting off one end of a blanket and sowing it on the other end to make it longer”. The best comparison, we heard, asked us to imagine a preacher hosting a wife-swapping party on Saturday night and telling his congregation Sunday morning that “Thou shalt not commit adultery”.
We understand why people support political figures. We just never could understand why so many of them blindly follow transparent bozos.
